How do YOU save money with power amplifiers ?

Powersoft AmplifiersWe do not want to re-invent the wheel or get into hot water, but you can achieve this by using what “state of the art” technology in Power amplifiers offers today: extremely high power into 2 ohm loads.

Until recently, using amplifiers at 2 Ohms has been more of an emergency solution than a system design choice.

The reasons are multiple: the power increase of conventional amplifiers from 4 to 2 ohms is not great enough to drive double the number of cabinets; the increase in current draw pushes the electronic components to be very close to their rated limits; higher internal operating temperatures increase the risk of the amplifier thermally protecting itself to protect and preserve component integrity. In addition to these technical reasons, sound designers’ own experiences in the past have justified this as well. When driving 2 ohms, the amplifier’s response is too slow, the damping factor drops considerably , and there is the constant feeling of “lack of air movement”. All those feelings, are confirmed when one looks at how many asterisks“**” one can find in the specification chart of many conventional amplifiers where the “2 Ohm” rating is provided.

Today “the tune has changed”.
