Powersoft AudioSuite: Impedance Monitor Module |

The introduction of Audiosuite control software has been quite a revolution that Powersoft has brought to the K-Series amplfiers that radically transforms the capability of the exhisting hardware platform, providing completely renewed and powerfull processing capabilities just updating internal Firmware and using the new Audiosuite software interface. The introduction of all the new capabilities, has induced a re-design the Amplfier and the DSP Processing Firmware. The huge work behing this has added to the K-Series platform, a number of new processing, control and monitoring capabiliies that can be available just by updating to the latest Firmware Version: 4.00 The K-Series amplifiers, when equipped with a K-DSP processing card, are now capable ofo performing real time measurements and remote readings of the Impedance vs Frequency curve. This measurement is performed with background processing by the DSP as a Complex Real Time Transfer Function between the Output Voltage and the Output Current inner readings. A sophisticated and dedicated DFT Algorithm is performed continuously while the amplifier is operating in order to collect the data and get rid of most of the non-Linearity components and unwanted noise that is commonly introduced by loudspeakers that are operating under voltage driven conditions (the common way amplifiers and loudspeakers are interfaced together). The real-time, background processing of this data makes it possible to collect this measurement using the same program material that the amplifier is actually reproducing while itis operating. There is, no specific procedure to run that will stop the current operation to collect this measurement. This makes the Real Time Impedance vs Frequency monitoring in the K-Series DSP amplifiers quite a unique feature in the market. The dedicated algorithm, in fact, provides collection of clean data while the amplifier is operating, also performing the necessary averaging and excluding all the frequency points that are considered not meaningful. After a few minutes of operating time, the software is able to receive the first readings that will show the curve on screen with the relative indications of measurement accuracy. There are several graphic features from the user side that can be helpful to give proper interpretation to the readings. It is possible to trace the reference minimum impedance and the reference average impedance in order to compare them to the actual Impedance vs Frequency curve. It is also possible to import reference impedance curves measured with small-signal measurement system in order to compare with the large signal behavior that can be monitored with Audiosuite, also giving the possibility to the user to monitor the actual differences between the small signal Impedance Curve and the full power real conditions operation. |
